Cleveland Museum of Art extends hours after Christmas for 'Jazz Age,' other shows (photos)

Saturday, 02 December 2017, 07:57:06 AM. The Cleveland Museum of Art is extending hours between Dec. 26 and Dec. 30 for 'Jazz Age,' other shows and its permanent collection.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland Museum of Art is extending hours during the week after Christmas for shows including one of the hottest tickets in town - its popular "Jazz Age" exhibition on American style in the 1920s.

The museum is normally open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, but for all five days from Tuesday, Dec. 26 through Saturday, Dec. 30, the museum will hold those same hours.

That means that instead of closing at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, it will be open an additional four hours on each of those three days.

As of Sunday, Nov. 26, "Jazz Age," which surveys hundreds of items of decorative art, furniture, photography, painting, sculpture and photography, drew 35,683 visitors in eight weeks.

That's respectable, but over the same period in 2015, "Monet to Matisse: Painting the Modern Garden," drew roughly 129,000 visitors.

Nevertheless, the museum said in a new release about the extended hours that tickets for "Jazz Age" could sell out during the post-Christmas week. It advises visitors to book in advance online or by calling 216-421-7340.

The show is on view through Sunday, Jan. 14.

General admission for the show, a sprawling, gorgeous blockbuster on art and design of the Gatsby era, is $15.

Other shows on view without special admission at the museum, which is always free, include: "Beyond Angkor: Cambodian Sculpture from Banteay Chhmar," and "Heritage: Wadsworth and Jae Jarrell."
