Ratings: ‘Big Brother’ Beats ‘Weekend Update: Summer Edition,’ ABC’s ‘Story of Diana’

NBC’s “Weekend Update: Summer Edition” had a nice weeknight premiere, but it wasn’t enough to unseat CBS’ “Big Brother.”

Led by its reality competition’s elimination episode, Les Moonves’ broadcast channel finished first in primetime averages. NBC claimed the No. 2 slot among both adults 18-49 and overall viewers.

Thursday night saw some NFL preseason preemptions falsely inflating some of the below fast national Nielsen numbers across the nets, making these preliminary results subject to adjustment.

CBS was first in ratings with a 1.4 rating/6 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 5.7 million. Following reruns, “Big Brother” at 9 p.m. scored a 2.2/9 and 7.3 million viewers. “Zoo” at 10 had a 0.8/3 and 3.5 million viewers.

NBC was second in ratings with a 1.1/5 and in viewers with 5.3 million. “The Wall” at 8 put up a 1.2/6 and 6.2 million viewers. “Weekend Update” at 9 earned a 1.3/5 and 5.2 million viewers. At 10, “The Night Shift” received a 0.9/4 and 4.5 million viewers.

Fox was third in ratings with a 1.0/4 and fourth in viewers with 3.6 million. “Beat Shazam” at 8 posted a 1.1/5 and 3.7 million viewers. “Love Connection” at 9 had a 1.0/4 and 3.5 million viewers.

ABC was fourth in ratings with a 0.9/4 and in third viewers with 5.1 million. “Boy Band” at 8 got a 0.7/3 and 3.4 million viewers. At 9, the two-hour conclusion of ABC’s Princess Diana documentary averaged a 1/0/4 and 6 million viewers.

Telemundo was fifth in ratings with a 0.7/3 and sixth in viewers with 1.7 million.

The CW and Univision tied for sixth in ratings, both with a 0.5/2. The CW was fifth in total viewers with 1.9 million, Univision was seventh with 1.4 million.

For CW, “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” at 8 had a 0.5/2 and 2.1 million viewers. At 9, “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” got a 0.5/2 and 1.7 million viewers.
