Reports: Harvey Weinstein's wife, fashion designer Georgina Chapman, is leaving him

Friday, 13 October 2017, 08:16:04 PM. 'My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered,' Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman says in a statement after the sex scandal.

Five days after the Harvey Weinstein sex scandal exploded, the movie producer's wife has announced she's leaving him.

“My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time,” Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman told People in a statement.

The split was separately confirmed by Us Weekly.

The separation runs counter to the united front Weinstein presented last Thursday after allegations of decades of sexual harassment broke in The New York Times.

At the time, the movie mogul said his wife of 10 years “stands 100 percent behind me."

"Georgina and I have talked about this at length," he told the New York Post, noting that the couple strategized before the Times piece went live. "We went out with (legal consultant) Lisa Bloom last night when we knew the article was coming out. Georgina will be with Lisa and others kicking my (butt) to be a better human being and to apologize to people for my bad behavior, to say I’m sorry, and to absolutely mean it.”

This is the second marriage for Weinstein, 65, who married the Marchesa designer in 2007. He was previously married to Eve Chilton from 1987 to 2004 with whom he shares three children aged 14 to 22. Weinstein and Chapman, 41, have two children, India Pearl, 7, and Dashiell Max Robert, 4.

The New Yorker followed with damaging accounts from three women who allege that Weinstein forced them to perform or receive oral sex and forced vaginal sex, as well as four women who told the magazine that they experienced unwanted touching that could be classified as an assault.

USA TODAY has reached out to multiple representatives for Chapman. When one assistant was reached, this reporter identified herself and the representative hung up the phone.
