Astros baby photo shoot is the sweetest celebration of the World Series win so far

Some Houstonians watched the Astros World Series at their favorite sports bar or in their most comfortable recliner, but the Crouch family of Conroe watched from St. Luke's Hospital of The Woodlands.

Oct. 27, Erin Crouch was admitted to the hospital for 24-hour monitoring for pre-eclampsia, a pregnancy complication as a result of high blood pressure. While in the hospital, her water broke and she and her husband, Kevin, welcomed Jack during Game 4 of the World Series on Oct. 28.

Jack was delivered a month early via cesarean section and had to stay in the hospital for a few days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). While Jack was in the NICU, the Crouch family stayed with him watching Games 4, 5, and 6 in the hospital.

"The game was a welcomed distraction, especially with pre-eclampsia - the baby isn't ready to come yet, but my body was," Erin told Chron.com. "It wasn't the easiest process but I was definitely happy about the distraction. He was an IVF baby, so we are super blessed to have him."

A further plot twist was that Kevin had a pair of tickets to Game 5 that he had to give up following Erin's hospitalization.

"Going to the game wasn't even an option for Kevin after Jack was born. Kevin would obviously choose the gift of his son over the World Series," Erin said. "But my mom jokes that my dad wouldn't have done the same thing with us kids."

Because of the unique circumstances of Jack's birth, Erin and Kevin knew they had to capture the memory. Days after the delivery, Erin contacted photographer Liliana Serna to schedule an Astros-themed photo shoot for her newborn baby.

The couple had already intended to photograph Jack, but they added Kevin's World Series tickets that he gave up to give it extra meaning.

"Their whole story and their session was amazing," Serna told Chron.com. Serna is a professional photographer that specializes in themed photo shoots with babies.

She's often called the "baby whisperer" for achieving such amazing shots, but she credits well-fed babies, a warm environment and white-noise machines.
