Woman loses 115 pounds by using Instagram as motivation

Tuesday, 05 December 2017, 04:45:47 AM. Morgan Bartley, 21, has used Instagram and her 173,000 followers to help hold her accountable during her weight loss journey.

A Southern California woman has used Instagram to help her lose more than 100 pounds.

Morgan Bartley, 21, credits the social media platform with holding her accountable as she changed her diet and began working out to come down from roughly 300 pounds, her heaviest weight.

"Probably the No. 1 thing that has kept me accountable has been sharing my weight-loss journey on Instagram," Bartley told Fox 8. "I was even sharing non-scale victories. The first time I was able to shop at a normal store, I remember sitting in the dressing room crying because I fit into an extra-large top."

One of the causes of Bartley's weight gain was surgery she had at 14 to address an ovarian torsion. At the time, her doctor told Barley she may never be able to have children.

"I've always wanted to have kids. ... I fell even deeper into a depression and really started struggling with a binge-eating disorder," Bartley said, according to Fox 8.

Bartley ended up gaining more than 60 pounds between the ages of 16 and 17.

Today, Bartley shares photos of her weight loss journey through working out and healthy eating daily on Instagram, where she has amassed more than 173,000 followers.

On Sunday, Bartley posted the following photo showing the dramatic before and after.

"When I was over weight, I rarely felt beautiful, sexy, or really worthy of attention in any way. I was objectified by my body type, stereotypically assumed and felt as though I was not allowed to feel beautiful, as though it was shameful and pointless of me to even try," Bartley wrote on Instagram.
