DUI, reckless homicide charges for man who drove into parked car, killing 20-year-old in south suburbs

Thursday, 12 October 2017, 05:34:30 PM. Tinley Park police said an Oak Forest man faces multiple charges in connection with a fatal crash early Tuesday that killed a 20-year-old Midlothian man.

A 37-year-old man faces multiple charges including reckless homicide and drunken driving stemming from a fatal crash this week in , police said.

Joseph M. Vorberg, of the 15300 block of Arroyo Drive, is charged with reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence after the crash that killed a 20-year-old Midlothian man, Tinley Park police said Wednesday.

Vorberg is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Thursday at the Cook County courthouse in Bridgeview, police said in a news release.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office had not yet released the name of the man who died. The man was a passenger in the vehicle that was struck by Vorberg's vehicle Tuesday and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, police said.

Police said Vorberg was northbound at about 3:30 a.m. on Oak Park Avenue when he ran into a parked car containing the deceased, who was a passenger, and the driver. Oak Park Avenue was closed from 171st to 173rd streets for several hours Tuesday as police investigated the crash.

Both Vorberg and the driver of the second vehicle were transported to area hospitals for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

Vorberg also is charged with driving under the influence and several traffic violations. Vorberg also was charged with failing to give aid/information at an accident, improper lane usage and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said.
