Leyden heads to 'Almost, Maine' for fall play

Wednesday, 15 November 2017, 07:14:56 AM. The Leyden Fine Arts Department will be putting on a production of 'Almost, Maine,' on Nov. 15, 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m. The play will be at West Leyden.
The Leyden Fine Arts Department will be putting on a production of "Almost, Maine," on Nov. 15, 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m. The play will be at the West Leyden auditorium. Admission will be $2 for students and $3 for adults. " 'Almost, Maine' is a series of nine scenes," director Tripp Burton said. "Each scene has its own story with its own characters within the story." Burton explained "Almost Maine" is a "lovely" play about several different love stories that happen on the same night, underneath the northern lights, in a town called Almost, Maine. The lights create miraculous occurrences for the characters. "There's 19 actors in the show, and they each get 10 minutes on stage, with two or three people at a time," he said. Not all of the love stories have the happiest of endings, but the audience is assured that the characters will be OK at the end of the story, according to Burton. Burton said "Almost, Maine" is a sweet story about love and hope, which the students connected to. "There isn't one part that is bigger than any other part in the play," he said of the actors. "The play is able to highlight a lot of actors." Although the parts in the story are equal, Burton said the only characters the audience sees more than once is Pete and Ginette. Pete is played by senior Michael Barajas. Michael Barajas noted that he likes "Almost, Maine" because of the story lines and the characters.
