School District 202 officials: Evanston high school SAT scores 'baseline'

Wednesday, 15 November 2017, 07:13:32 AM. The state board of education announced SAT scores statewide, including for Evanston Township High School District 202.
Juniors at Evanston Township High School Dist. 202 ranked 44th in the state – among the top 10 percent – on the SAT test, according to results officials recently released. School Dist. 202, whose only school is Evanston Township High School, had an average composite score of 1,118.5 on the SAT test, compared to 1,015.9 for juniors statewide, according to information from the Illinois State Board of Education released Oct. 31. The average composite score ranked 44th against 706 other high schools in the state, according to ISBE. The results are from the first year that the state's 11th graders were required to take the SAT test – which was administered in the spring of the 2016-2017 school year – after ISBE switched from the ACT. Pete Bavis, ETHS School Dist. 202 assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, said he and other officials are looking at this year's results as a "baseline" from which to improve, similar to what happened on the ACT over previous years. "Once we adjust to this SAT we'll see similar progress over time," Bavis said. On the math portion of the test, ETHS juniors on average scored 556.7, compared to 504.4 statewide, according to the ISBE data. In reading and writing, Evanston juniors scored an average of 561.8, compared to 511.5 statewide. Students in that section ranked 42nd in the state. Bavis said the SAT will be one factor considered in the district's effort to analyze college readiness in a project underway between elementary school...Read more
