A Baton Rouge man was arrested Thursday on accusations he set a vehicle on fire and damaged the home of a woman he was said to be stalking, according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.

Ja'Quan East, 23, is accused of splashing gasoline on a Chevrolet Trail Blazer on June 16 that was parked at a home in the 8900 block of Cefalu Drive, then lighting it on fire with rolled up newspaper, his arrest report says.

The fire went under the vehicle and spread to the house — occupied by five adults and an infant — causing $5,000 in damage, the report says.

A witness told investigators she saw East on a bicycle in front of the house dressed in all black at the time, the report says.

Investigators also believe East had been stalking the woman who lived at the home. The woman told investigators she had ignored multiple romantic advances from East, the report says.

East had also posted several threatening messages on social media directed at the woman who owned the vehicle, the report says.

East, 6322 Ritterman Ave., was booked into Parish Prison on counts of aggravated arson and terrorizing.
