Yes on Lorain County Issue 3, the tuberculosis renewal levy: endorsement editorial

Sunday, 05 November 2017, 08:37:58 PM. The editorial board of The Plain Dealer and endorses Lorain County Issue 3, the tuberculosis renewal levy.

You don't often see a special levy for a disease on the ballot, but Lorain County is asking voters to support Issue 3, a 0.065-mill five-year renewal levy for the care and treatment of people who are suffering from tuberculosis, which can be deadly and extremely contagious.

It deserves your attention and your vote.

The levy will cost a mere $1.92 per year for the owner of a $100,000 home, and it satisfies an Ohio law that requires all counties to pay for TB treatment for residents. Voters rejected the levy last year, but it's important for the community's sake to make sure that TB is well-contained. Early voting in the Nov. 7 election has begun.
