Yes on Lorain County Issue 5, the Drug Task Force renewal levy: endorsement editorial

Sunday, 05 November 2017, 08:38:19 PM. The editorial board of The Plain Dealer and support Issue 5, Lorain County's Drug Task Force renewal levy to maintain the task force dedicated to arresting drug dealers.

Lorain County is grappling with a devastating opioid crisis that led to 134 deaths from fentanyl, cocaine and heroin last year, more than double the overdose deaths in 2015, according to the coroner's office. That alone makes a compelling case for Lorain County Issue 5, the 0.080-mill renewal levy that supports the Lorain County Drug Task Force, dedicated to putting big-time drug dealers behind bars where they belong, and which works closely with federal authorities.

The levy costs the owner of a $100,000 home just $2.37 a year - a worthy investment in the safety and well-being of county residents. Early voting in the Nov. 7 election has begun.
