It's not Breeders' Cup, but Peter Miller still winning at Del Mar

“It doesn’t matter if the purse is $1 million or $28,000,” trainer Peter Miller said Friday afternoon as he scurried around after his Cute Knows Cute scored her second career victory in the fourth race at Del Mar. “I’m nervous ... nervous energy. I get excited anytime I’ve got a horse running.” Just a week ago, Miller was doubly excited — maybe triply — as he saddled winners in two Breeders’ Cup sprint races. Not only did Stormy Liberal win the $1 million Turf Sprint, the Miller-trained Richard’s Boy ran second. Three races later, Roy H won the $1.5 million Sprint. In just over an hour, the three horses netted their owners more than $1.5 million. Friday’s winning share for the owners of Cute Knows Cute in the claiming race: $16,800. And Miller, an Encinitas resident, was almost as pumped ... although he didn’t jump onto anyone’s shoulders this time. “You never know,” said Miller of repeating his Breeders’ Cup celebration leap. Are things back to normal for Miller after last weekend? “It still isn’t, but it still is,” he said. “The next morning, I got up at the same time (4:30) and went back to work as usual.
